Re: The Sky!
Wow, a little taste of late winter
Well we had one warm day yesterday, it got into the upper 40'sF... Avg. for this time of year!!... then we had a cold front move through with a band of rain/ sleet mix at around 9 pm yesterday and now the polar vortex is going to give us a "Polar Bear Hug" for the first few days of meteorological spring, We are 19F right now, expected to drop to a low of 0F tonight with snow into tomorrow possibly around 6 inches if not more, with a high tomorrow around 5F!!!!( they are saying if we have the single digit highs, it will be the first time since they started keeping reliable records that it failed to hit 10F during the day in March!!!) By Monday morning it may get down to -8F!!! with a wind chill of -20F, this is March for Crying out loud!!

Re: The Sky!
This is smoke from a large brush fire about 9 days ago...
The last two were taken from 229 highway right next to the Missouri River and you couldn't even see the river for a time.

@Wind12 wow, did it get out of hand or was that planned? Sure seems like it's filling up the whole area with smoke, that can't be good.

Re: The Sky!
@Wameyn It got out of hand, the story is that it started as a controlled fire in Doniphan county Kansas that Saturday, but spread, then that Sunday it was warmer and windy and it jumped the river and ran up by the nature center and Wyeth hill and they had to evacuate a neighborhood in St. Joe and close the casino for the evening, thankfully no structures were burned but they have to keep the river walk closed for awhile to deal with trees damaged by the fire. Our whole house smelled like burning wood that day, I have never seen anything like it here.
Thankfully we are getting some rains now and things are greening up.

Re: The Sky!
The first pic was about six minutes before a severe storm moved in with damaging wind gusts, the pic doesnt do it justice, because what was real freaky looking was the low clouds racing west to east while the trees were still not moving from any wind, it looked like a timelapse in real time, the other pics are a cumulonimbus from a few weeks earlier, and then some mammatus I saw a bit before that. :p
